DONOUGHMORE 7 MILE ROAD RACE
Take the Challenge!!!!!
On friday 17th of july 2009 the 27th Annual road race takes place starting at 8pm.
The race one of the top ten races in Ireland and Britain attracts a large high calibre field from the local, national and international scene.
The extensive prizes on offer include:
- The Jim Bradley Memorial Perpetual cup for the first male individual and a substantial winners prize.
- The TJ Forde Perpetual Cup for the first female individual plus another substantial winners prize
- Top ten men
- Top six women
- First, second and third veteran from 0-35 to 0-70
- First second and third wheelchair athlete
- Team prizes and a quality t-shirt to all finishers
Entry fee which is payable on the night is €10. The 2008 winner was Michael Herlihy from Charleville in a time of 36.52, Michael has gone onto win the Cork City Marathon this year.
The course record is held by peter leigh harriers in a time of 33.09 set in 2006.
The 2008 ladies winner was Rhona Lynch from Eagle A.C. in a time of 43.04. Valerie Vaughan of Blarney-Inniscarra A.C. club holds the ladies record of 40.02 set in 2001.
The wheel chair winner was Jerry Forde of Blarney.
Donoughmore A.C. is looking forward to welcoming back these athletes to defend their titles.
The race is proceeded by two other quality events that provide the non competitive participant with an opportunity to experience the Donoughmore challenge.
The first event is the fifteenth annual 7 mile non competitive walk at 7pm on the scenic undulating road race course.
The entry fee is €5 and all finishers will receive a finishing piece and entry into a draw for many valuable spot prizes.
The second event is a 1 mile fun run at 7.30 which has an entry fee of just €3.
Athletes are reminded that due to the large numbers participating that all events events will start on time. Refreshments will be served afterwards

Race Route
The race begins at A and Finishes at E.
It starts off a A (Stuake) and proceeds north for about 2 miles over a stretch of inclines and declines
until you reach B (Thady Bills cross). The route then continues south, declining for approximately 2.7 miles
to Creans Cross C. The final stretch is a steady incline north for the remainder of course up to Donoughmore
Cross D and finally into the home straight close to the starting point in Stuake (E).
